A day of celebration at Camp Agapé!
On Sunday, May 3, 2009, more than 300 faithful supporters gathered in celebration to dedicate the new dining facility at Camp Agape. The afternoon featured food, archery, nature activities, tours of facilities, games for kids, the unveiling of a new camp store, a rocket launch, and the dedication of the new building. Funds raised in the "Go Camp! Building What the Church Needs" capital campaign have made this new building possible.
The dedication service featured the blessing of five special areas in the building. Bishop Leonard Bolick, along with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Colley, and the Rev. David Huddle presided. Aaron & Sylvia King where recognized for the gift of Ralph & Mary Johnson toward the "Johnson Dining Room." The members of Beck’s Lutheran Church, Lexington, honored the Rev. David Huddle and Mr. Paul Briggs as the food serving area was dedicated in their honor. Outside the building, a special gift toward landscaping was given in memory of Corporal Jason Howard, by his brother Thomas, and a butterfly garden was dedicated in his memory. The lower level of this new facility is devoted primarily to our large weekday, school-based Environmental Education Program. A special gift was received to honor the devotion of Phyllis Parker for her years of devotion as a 5th grade teacher. The Environmental Education classroom and prep were dedicated in her honor. Finally, the David L. Castor Chapel was dedicated in memory of Rev. Castor who served as the organization’s first director for 23 years. David's widow, Faye, and his three children Chris, Mark, and Cindy, and their families were recognized for their faithful support of this ministry.
It was a glorious day of celebration. Visit Camp Agape to see this beautiful and functional new addition to meeting the program needs of congregations and members of
the North Carolina Synod.
